WAYS TO BECOME MORE TRANSPARENT IN AGILE [#Agile #AgileTransparency]
1. DEMONSTRATE
2. HAVE DIFFICULT CONVERSATIONS
3. DO NOT “WING IT”:
4. SHARE FREELY
5. TELL IT LIKE IT IS
6. INVOLVE OTHERS IN DECISION-MAKING
7. COMMUNICATE:
LACK OF TRANSPARENCY:
Can be shown simply by:
• Being ambiguous
• Being overly discreet
• Woking in isolation
Can be as corrosive as:
• Intentional secrecy
• Misrepresentation
• cover-up
TRANSPARENCY ISSUES INCLUDE:
• Not sharing impending issues soon enough
• Working on a problem by yourself without telling anyone
• Self-preservation – keeping vital info to yourself
HIGH LEVEL OF TRANSPARENCY:
• Builds trust and strengthens relationships
• Helps us make better decisions and promotes better feedback
• Helps ensure we are more aligned with each other and fosters a culture of higher engagement – employees who trust that their leaders are open and honest will engage at a higher level, feel more ownership of company goals, and work harder
• Reduces risks and surprises
• Increases accountability
WAYS TO BECOME MORE TRANSPARENT:
1. DEMONSTRATE
If you are in a leadership role, demonstrate transparency yourself. Make it clear that transparency applies to everyone.
2. HAVE DIFFICULT CONVERSATIONS
Have the difficult conversations needed to move past issues. Ignoring issues do not make them go away.
3. DO NOT “WING IT”:
If you do not know the answer to something, do not make up an answer just to keep your ego intact. Instead, say you do not know, then help find the answer.
4. SHARE FREELY
Share information freely. Do not keep vital information to yourself.
5. TELL IT LIKE IT IS
Tell it like it is – whether good or bad. Do not sugar-coat it. Do not “green-shift”.
6. INVOLVE OTHERS IN DECISION-MAKING
Involve others in decision-making where it makes sense and where it does not slow down the process.
7. COMMUNICATE:
Communicate quickly when things change.
